I'm not saying it can't be a female and is "11.5"long and weighs one ounce less than two pounds" - LOL. All I am saying is I've seen old male perch that look very similar to that fish. We have to keep in mind that fish in TJ's pond are well fed and should have ample stored fat and should appear plump even the males due to fat reserves. The body condition of that YP above does not to me look plump enough for a typical healthy well fed YP in early January.
If CB1 would go out on his across the pond dock and catch one of his females we could compare pictures of YP in early January. I will send CB1 a picture of a 14" YP with some 12 YP females from my pond early January 2014. The eggs masses were big enough the guy took the eggs home for eating.
