My family has been crayfish farming for the last 30 years in LA. The way farmers seed their ponds is to drop the water level, then count the holes that the crayfish dig. They estimate each hole will produce ~400 crayfish offspring. Multiply the number of holes x 400 to calculate the yoy/acre desired for next year. With that said, when the ponds are flooded in the spring, they come out of the ground. If they ARE crayfish holes, I would shove a large pc of PVC or pipe in the ground over the hole and fill it up with water until the hole will take no more. This will cause the crayfish (or what ever it is) to come up.
