I need to get my hands on at least 50 hybrid striped bass.
I cant find any here. I was hoping someone on the forum might have access to them and maybe could ship me what I need.

New roads , just west of baton rouge. Ok yeah that's a bit far for Overtons. I think they have HSB this time of year. But that would be quite a haul and I doubt they would ship them. Hope you can find someone closer.

Have Keo ship in spring at 1-2", cage, grow them out, stock in Fall.

Has anyone ever netted off a corner or area of a small pond to "grow" fish?
I would like to get some wipers, but my main pond LMB are about 14" now. I have a sediment pond but just stocked fingerling CNBG and RES. The pond is probably 25' wide. Wonder if I could net off a 20x25' area and keep the net sealed well enough against the banks and bottom to keep the fish separated?
Or would it just be easier in a cage?

Yes Eric and others have netted in necked down areas of ponds to use as grow out area with success. Cages work also. Article from some years back in PB by Eric on his net process. Many cages designs available on forum or I can send you some directions I like for cylinder cages.

If you want cylinder cages just email me for directions - take about 2 hrs to build solo...zipties are kinda tedious.

Mark, I've tried it twice now, and both times had limited success. Ewest was a big help to me, and maybe he'll see this and have more info. Here's a good thread from Cecil with pics. Blocking Net The 3 biggest issues I had were: 1) bottom contour. You've really got to weigh the bottom down to prevent gaps. 2) predators. The area blocked needs to be as void of predators as possible, or the blocked area turns into an all you can eat buffet. 3) water fluctuations. If your water level rises and falls with rains, you might need to extend the netting well up onto the shore line. I made all these mistakes, but now I have a better handle on the process. I'd do it again in a heart beat if I needed it.

Here's the instructions I followed with several modifications over the past few seasons. There are several other construction and design methods available - Condello has a great PVC design which utilizes 3' cheap mesh but still makes a 4' deep cage - this one just worked well for me as I can collapse the cages for storage during Winter. Let your imagination be your guide! One challenge is sourcing 4' plastic mesh at big box store - if you order this from Stony Creek or other aquaculture sites I've checked it's pricey. You could probably get away with using 3' or 3.5' width which I've found at HD and Lowes - look for 3/8 or 1/2" mesh. Again, Condello cage employs the 3' mesh and still creates a 4' depth cage. The wider the mesh holes are, the less FA accumulates and the easier it is to clean when you pull the cages. Few tips - Pool noodle floats are cheap and work well, but will break down over time and need to be replaced after several years. Not a huge deal, just something to bear in mind. Consider adding support section of pvc hose in the middle of the cage to help prevent the accordion effect. Zip ties seem to have a 3-4 year lifespan if exposed to significant UV so be prepared to replace them seasonally in various compromised locations. Good stuff TJ. And Massachusetts is where I cut my teeth learning to fish. An interesting thing about the state is the huge number of lakes and reservoirs not counting ponds. 5000 in a state less than a third the size of Indiana. That's a higher density than the land of 10,000 lakes - Minnesota.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

I've had the white ones last more than a year. Maybe reduced light penetration and subsequent reduced UV penetration from using Aquashade made a difference?

String trimmer line at 6 years and still going strong.. You use it like thread - weaving in and out every few holes? How do you finish the knots?

Yep, I just weave it around the pipe and through the mesh, pulling it tight as I go. I usually begin with around an 8' piece, and tie off the ends with a figure eight knot. After all this time I have never experienced breakage, or needed to retighten anything.
