My orange water is gone and now my pond is a blueish-green with visibility to an approx depth of 2-3 feet and improving!! took about a week of research and the solution was aggressive airation, water chemistry monitoring, and about 2 lbs of Alum added over a 4 day period! There are small pockets of algae growing and the wood toads are in aggressive mating swims!... My son caught a beautiful 14" perch the other day and things seem to be looking good!

Before treatment we had a ph of 8.5+ with a toatal alkilinity of 240+... after treatment ph was 8.0 with a total alkilinity of approx 180+... fish seem to be happy and are now making nests...

bad side effect is the blue herons are now stopping by for breakfast luch and dinner!! with clearer water they can see much better!

Did you fill your pond with well water by any chance? Sounds like iron to me that your alum settled out. Just a guess.

My trout pond that gets continuous well water in summer stays a brown/green 24/7 due to the 2.42 ppm's of iron in the well water. When I shut it down the first of November the iron settles out and it becomes crystal clear.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.
