In the evening about an hour before sunset I can see what appear to be clouds of dust where each fish has surfaced or rolled just below the surface. The clouds dissipate in less than 30 seconds and are not visible at any other time of day. My days have been almost entirely sunny with temps in the mid 90s, I have not had rain in a month. This is the second time that I have noticed this and it was during a similar set of circumstances about 2 months ago. I can only see the clouds when standing above the level of the waters 10 or so feet or higher. In a week I will see this on 3 or 4 evenings. I have almost no vegetation, an over abundance of fish and feed daily. I am removing fish daily to reduce the overall numbers and am adding floating islands.
Does anyone have any ideas, first is it a problem, second how big of a problem and last, if a problem what should I do?
I am almost certain it is not the Lone Ranger and Tonto.

Rad are you sure what it is? We have that effect from time to time. Sometimes its temps. ,sometimes pollen , sometimes plankton bloom but not dust as there is none unless it blew in from Africa or west Texas (which happens but has no effect here). Could you be getting dust blown in from the Gobi desert?

I have a lot of loose debris on the bottom of my ponds and as a fish swims by, the water displacement causes a lifting effect on the debris, provided the fish is close enough to the bottom. It looks just like a dust cloud to me.

It is visible near the surface in water that is over 10' deep. Is it possible that what I am seeing is suspended debris? Could clay particles take on an algae green color?

My "clouds" are greenish brown in color and can be seen in clear water climbing five to seven feet off of the bottom. The same thing happens when I drop the secchi disk to the bottom. When I lift it I get a debris cloud that's greenish in color and lasts several seconds until the detritus starts to settle again.

I assume that there is no dust in the air just on/in the water. That sounds like plankton and we see that effect. Do you have a plankton bloom ongoing? It could also be clay particles or debris from the bottom if it is happening close to the bottom but that would be a strange event if it happened all over the pond at the same time. Any aeration to keep things stirred up?

There is no aeration, there is an algae bloom ongoing. I could see a lot of suspended clay before the bloom, my visibility is about 3". Other than strange looking there are no apparent problems. I will keep an eye on it and see what develops, thanks for your input.
