A friend died a year ago from it and it was honestly one of the most devastating ways to go I've seen. His battle only lasted about a year. It eventually took every muscle he had, but his mind was very much aware of everything. Just terrible. The spike in donations for ALS research has been incredible since this challenge went viral. This morning, it was up 400% since before the challenge began.
