I am not a water clearing expert, but it sounds like you might possibly have to add one of the following to clear your water: gypsum, lime, alum, or organic material such as barley straw.
Try doing a search for the italicized words in not only "Soil questions", but also the "General Questions" catagories. You can try out the chemical additives (at least) with your cloudy water in a jar like you have used to see if the cloudiness would settle out on it's own in time.
