I'm starting to renovate my pond. It's about a half of a acre or a little more. Went down there with a net and caught a bunch of fathead minnows. I easily saw a couple thousand on just one side of the bank. I have only put fathead minnows in there and only 10 little bluegill in there. The bluegill got put in 2 weeks ago. But my plans are to make it about a acre and grow some nice size bass. Right now the pond is 5 1/2 foot deep. When it's completely full it's gonna be about 9ft deep. Any suggestions on how I should go about stocking the pond, and if I should drain it completely to do all the work or just leave it? I don't think I will have to drain it but I don't know.

Not sure why you would want to begin stocking until you've finished construction. You want to double the current half acre surface area, so that's a good bit of earth work left to do.
If you want to deepen it, you will need to drain it. If you want to use an excavator to pull back the edges from to current water line, maybe even a little below the water line, and expand it like that, you will not need to drain.
