Growing up in Beaumont Texas, legendary Blues guitarist/singer Johnny Winter began his career at 10 years of age and performed professionally for 60 years before leaving us on July 16, 2014 while on tour in Zurich Switzerland, at 70 years of age.......... Go Johnny go, Johnny be good.
This is an email I received from a friend on July 5th. He just saw Johnny here in Lincoln:
We weaseled seats right up by the stage with Johnny's staff. It was merely feet away from where he came out with his walker and took oxygen back stage before performing. He had to have help making it to his chair on center stage, but then his fingers really took off on that guitar. Flippin awesome.
One thing I noticed about Johnny's guitar work......where a 'normal' guitarist might play, say, 8 notes to a bar for a given melody, Johnny would play 32 notes in the same bar, with the same melody.
As a listener, that takes some getting used to. It's almost too much at first!!!
