I just thought this would be a funny title for a thread.

The small black ones in the picture. Ok, so they are not minnows. But they are about the size of minnows and they have pretty flat heads.

Would you like for me to send you some for your pond? laugh I'll throw in the GSF for good measure. laugh laugh laugh

The hybrid strippers I have not ran across, and if I did, my wife probably would not want me taking pictures.

This photo sure turns up a lot.....after the years I have invested in HBG, and all the hundreds of photos I've taken, I'm still looking for one like it.

However....I do have a folder entitled simply "freaks". I'm waiting for Yolk Sac's birthday to post pics from it though.

Sparkie, Bruce's title was "Flathead". Doesn't it look like it ran into a wall and has a flat face? wink

I was really hoping to find another picture of a different fish, but couldn't, so that one got elected.

Hybrid strippers will clean a bachelor party out of sushi pretty quickly, then leave abruptly. If Aqua Max is available, forget about it - will leave the cupboards bare.

Rumor has it that large flatheads fished near moss with brass poles make really good hybrid stripper bait. grin

Well I'll be darned.

There actually is a flathead (chub) minnow. And there I thought I could pawn off some of my bullhead fry as flathead minnows to the unsuspecting. grin

Bruce had to know he was going to start some silliness with that title for a thread.

Hmmm! I'm not sure what to think about our family-friendly site when we start posting about "chubs" as they relate to "hybrid strippers" in the same posts and thread. cry

I'm pretty sure hybrid strippers won't eat chubs. They definitely prefer Aquamax 600.

Does that make them hybrids made from hybrids.

I'm curious as to what characteristics define a hybrid stripper, how they are created, and if they require any special management/handling techniques?

Are they very high maintenance?

White bass + striped bass I believe. But I know nothing else I don't even think we have them in Ontario. At least I've never seen them farmed or wild.

I guess there's a difference between hybred strippers and HSB? Thought you were talking about one in the same

Indeed. On the down side, they almost never reproduce, at least in ponds. There are, of course, some pondmeisters that are grateful for this; I wouldn't know, having resisted all of Sparkie's attempts to get me interested in hybrids of any classification, including hybrid strippers. It is also known that even when mixed with a healthy population of RES, hybrid strippers have no more intrinsic disease resistance than regular strippers, and have been found to be vectors of some pretty nasty surprises.

Thank goodness Yolk weighed in with some sound advice. I'm afraid I don't know my brass from my elbow where hybrid strippers are concerned.
