It all starts with your goals for the pond. i.e. what are they? How large is the pond, and what's it's depth? What type and quantity of cover is in the pond for the fish? What's in there now (and what size are they)? Will it be aerated? Will you be feeding on a consistent basis? re: fish. What do you like to fish for? Will you be catching and releasing, catching and keeping or a combination of both? How much "hands on" work do you want to do? How fast do you want to have adult fish in the pond? What's your budget for stocking? There's many posts in the archives too.
