Looking for suggestions on how to get a little shade out on our dock. Offset umbrella seems like a neat idea, but I don't want a big base I would rather use the existing pipe for the base if possible.

I've been considering adding a tubular frame with an awning type tarp/canopy as well.

Hi Hesperus, what size pipe is that and what was the original intent for the pipe?

We are going with two 10 foot umbrellas. When were not down there we can close them and for the winter we can just bring them in. We had a fixed pergola but even after taking the top off for the winter the wind had her way with it. I don't think a fixed roof would be a good idea because of how much wind it would catch and put extra leverage on the floating dock.
