I know there has been some talk about this so I just thought I would put this out there.
Saturday I actually caught 2 RES on pellets. First ones ever! I couldn't believe it. They were only about 5 inches long but they were no doubt 100 percent RES. We caught several others on worms but was quite surprised when I caught a couple off of a pellet. So by no trying of my own it is accidentaly going on in my pond with a few of them... Maybe they were just desperate for something to eat?? I dont know but thought I would share....

I feed a combination of floating and sinking pellets. I've always wondered if it would be more likely for the RES to start eating pellets on their own if the pellets were placed more in their domain. Since RES normally do not feed on top water prey, it seems likely to me they would be less inclined to get started feeding on floating pellets than the sinking ones. But that is just speculation on my part.

Hey that's cool, RC, thanks for sharing. If I remember correctly from videos of your HSB feeding, you're using floating pellets, correct? So did the RES take it off the surface? Was it an actual pellet you used or a Stubby Steves?

Yes floating pellets but I had one on a hook with a split shot up the line about 18 inches ( an actual pellet) and the RES took it from down below. Not sure if they would come up and grab one off the surface or not?? But the 2 I caught were about 4 feet deep.

I've caught them in traps baited with pellets.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Caught them on pellets (Stubby Steve's) and hook and have some feeding at the feeders.

So I guess you could say they will eat them just can't seem to keep them coming back I guess?? Where is given the chance a BG will eat them all the time and nothing else I think. You know what they say about RES. # 11 on Bruce's list if there isn't one. How do you know your dealing with a RES? ( RES do what they want to do when they want to do it!)  RC
