Took the kids out on the pond last night to see if the fish were biting after the big front went through...they were. Caught 20 or so good crappie and a half a dozen bass in the 1-2 lb range. Then I caught this:    And FYI mouth gape was right at 4". Weight was 6 lb even. She got documented and released.

D, nice nice fish. Good thing ya mentioned the gape, I could just see Bill hovering over the keyboard ready ta jump on ya. Even enough foresight to include the length. Goog lob.

Yes Bob-O has is correct. Hey - thanks bunches for remembering to measure the mouth gape for that dandy bass. The data will help our data base especially for the larger sizes of LMbass. Not many members here catch the 22" size of LMbass.
For those interested a 22" bass has a standard weight of 6.2 lbs so your bass at 6.0 lbs is in very good body condition - a nice healthy fish. Its mouth gape of 4" means this bass could eat a 9" BG!!!!!

RC or anyone else - measure the body depth - height of a couple of your 9" BG and report back to us the results. Double check or verify my data. Good fishing.

I'll try this weekend. I am not saying your wrong just hard to imagine seeing a bass take down a nine inch BG! It would be a site to see.

Now if you go by the 1/3 length rule this bass would be more app to eat a 7 inch BG but I know big bass like to eat big fish and would not put it passed him to try that's for sure!

RC Hey RC, you know what they say, I can explain it to you but cannot understand it for 'ya...  Take a piece of 8x11 sheet of paper and fold diagonally - corner to corner - mark scale divisions in inches from photo - you now got a good ruler, right? Thanks buddy....like I said I don't normally take picture of 9 inch fish... George
