My pond is almost a year old, and it looks nice until you walk into the water. The water clouds up and looks very muddy. My children swim in the shallow end and it looks like their swimming in a mud puddle. Is there anything I can do to clear this up so it doesn't cloud up and look like muddy water.

Mike welcome to the PB forum. Is the water muddy before anyone wades in ? How deep can you see into the water before anyone enters the water. Any fish or livestock ?

I just went out and got a sample of water, nobody has been in today. I could see thru the water in a bottle. The water is not muddy until somebody goes in. I went back out with a flashlight and I guess I could see down about 6-10". No fish or live stock, also hardly any grass around the pond. I have also put aqua blue in it and it turned the water a nice shade of blue green, that was about two months ago. Its not as blue now. I have no aeration systen yet either and have noticed a muddy like sludge that some of it floats, I can also pick it up and throw out. thanks for getting back to me so soon. I am new at this pond thing and just want it to be a nice place for my family to enjoy

Mike, what material do you have the shallow end lined with (pea gravel, sand)as this can make a big difference. The best thing we have seen to avoid the resuspension of clay and dead organics is a material from stone quarries called "screenings"We also employ dump trucks that have "slingers" that can place stone sand screenings out in beach areas in ponds that are already full via a conveyor belt.Welcome to the PB Forum Ted

I have some sand, but I put sand down to late, and it's not spread out enough. What does something like "screenings", and the dump trucks with the slingers cost? thanks for getting back to me.

We pay approx $12-$15 per ton delivered 22 ton minimum within 30 mile radius of stone quarry, A good operator can put it exactly where you want it in the water, apply at least 6 inches and use the same for the beach.

I got the same problem, and I was thinking of putting down sand, pea gravel or screenings...but what I was worried about is sediment over the years? How do I clean or seperate the sediment from the sand? If its 3-5" rocks or a cement bottom....it would be easy. But how do you clean sand?
