We didn't put any topsoil in the water zone. I figured it would fill with natural sediment any way. Clay bottom, 12 feet of 4" rip rap, then top soil with grass that we cut. If grass or anything gets growing in the rip rap we spray it with glyphosate or we call it round up or touch down.

EDIT: the area you see that is smoothed with the high hoe bucket is the area that seen the rip rap.
