Temperatures hit 95 here in Illinois today. Last week we had a low of 32, however the temps were hovering in the 60's. The week before it was in the 20-30s. Looks like no spring this year, just winter---->Summer. The only thing winter/summer have in common is the never ending wind.

Balmy 80F today. A/C is on! Don't want to melt ya know

Turned my AC geothermal on too. I don't mind the heat but the wife can't bear it when she comes home.

Get ready to turn it right back off. Temps next week 15�F below normal. We broke a high temp record today. 91�F. Record was 90�F set back in the late 1800's. They also said it's been 239 days since we were this warm, 9-11-2013. Approx 65% of the year has passed since then.

There is some good in the weather now and then. My dog Dolly and I sat at the pond 2:00 this morning with the temperature at 71, a balmy medium wind, no mosquito's and the frogs and night birds calling. The sky was overcast but illuminated so I could see. Perfect.

Cecil, good thing ya added the part about your wife not taking the heat. I was gonna blast you and Jacob about being wimps. I live in a tin box with no AC or screen doors. Bout July and August it gets pretty warm and I have to let both doors open and run a 20" fan. One knight I was reading the forum and in the front door flies a bat. It circled the kitchen and living room, went down the hall (where it is completely dark, don't know how it didn't fly into something) back up the hall, twice around living room and back out the front door. I hoped it had taken some of the mosquitos with it.

Bob, hope you got heat in that tin can. They are calling for a possible frost towards the end of next week.

Scott, thanks for the concern and I have a few candles. I've been home for three weeks and have experienced all 4 seasons. Bout enough to make me head back south. All I need is a wealthy woman to pay for the gas.

Florida license plates are showing up all over the place, and the much diminished traffic flow is a direct reflection of this migration.

Time to start taking the back roads again.

I WAS on a back road yesterday (construction detour) and was stuck behind 2 vehicles where I couldn't see the driver over the top of the seat. They must have been looking thru the steering wheel out the windshield. 25 mph in a 45 mph zone. Had to slow down below 20 for the turns....

If you take 31 North thru Grand Haven, starting at Robbins Road, which as you know 31 North is straight thru. We can both start at the same location, you going straight thru, and me, buzzing the back roads, I'll be at the drawbridge way before you ever get there, and be long gone! If I come out at Applebees right before the drawbridge, all I have to do at worst case is wait for one red light, then gone. The drawbridge is unavoidable tho unless you take a >30 mile detour.

Nice thing about hitting 31 North from Applebees in heavy traffic is a very courteous tourist may stop to let you in, and hold up traffic, pissing everyone off behind "her" that is still in the gauntlet of red lights thru that stretch. I always smile and wave back

You see Scott, you made it from Robbins Road, and quite possibly, may have passed Grant Ave., but you're still way back on the waiting list to cross Jackson to get over the drawbridge, and hopefully timing is on your side, because they do open the drawbridge on a regular basis during the summer, and it could easily be standing traffic for several miles in all directions. Then ya have to go thru all the red lights on the main drag, and some of these aren't even a hundred yards apart!

There is a 31 bypass going in, at least there seems to be. A former congressman bought up as much property along this trek as he could before the plan was "officially" hatched

This mega dollar bypass terminates in a small town which has a co-op, a combination bar/general store, (which is always busy on the bar side) a restaurant, and you may have to ding the bell a few times at the post office to get some attention! You can get on I96 from here tho, but it is NO bypass to the rest of 31, because ya still have to get thru Muskegon! (Lil Detroit)

Jacob, I didn't start the return of the Snowbirds. There were plenty of folks that were anxious to get back home and now are probably regretting that decision.
Scott, everybody thinks it's so great to winter in 70 degree weather and it is, especially this yr. Only thing is it takes some detailed planning and packing. I try to have everything at both places but when I'm at either place I always find that something I need is at the other. I even make lists well in advance. Also your little comment about the return of the Snowbirds is mild compared to the whinein from the resident white haired men and blue haired women. After I hear enough, I tell em that if it weren't for the SBs they would be payin a lot more taxes and there economy would certainly be impaired. They don't like that but don't disagree. Just like the morons that want to change the name of Asian Carp, seems like folks just want to bitch.

Yipes... It has been a nice preview of summer this past week, but we paid for it with several thunderstorms and a serious rain storm last night. We are at 2.3 inches of rain since midnight, and just coming to a close. 4 inches of rain in 3 days now! The previous rain came in giant downbursts in thunderstorms that left 0.75" in one case in 15 minutes.

I know for you guys down south this happens often, but for us up here in NY is is not all that common. The pond struggled with that much water.

I had to get up at 3:30AM and rescue the driveway from washouts (long uphill driveway) and plug the culvert that directs water into the pond to cut back on flow. The pond was spinning like a giant whirlpool, and the outflow was eroding the backside of the dam! I couldn't tell what was going on under all the water last night, but a decent hole was forming where there shouldn't be one. I got a good look at it this morning, and I see a load of heavy stone in my future.

I'm lucky that I can direct the drainage that goes into the pond along my driveway if I wish without harm, but I still didn't sleep too good last night :-(.

It has been a long, crappy week as my mom passed on Tuesday from a 7 year battle with ALS, and this isn't helping any.

The only positives are I am getting some nice fresh water in the pond for swimming, and the fish are getting some good exercise swimming against that current.

This weather is crazy alright. Had to turn the heat back on after a few days with the a/c running. And right now it's putting down ice the size of bb's.

Getting crazier yet...periods of sun, hard rain, and sleet, all within minutes of each other. Now the NWS has issued an alert for cold-weather funnel cloud development, which I gather is different from the funnel clouds normally associated with thunderstorms and warm air.

And it's 53 degrees?

Geez.

Cold air Funnel is basically a weak Tornado that is short lived. Had something similar happen here in the Thunder Snows of 1993.

A coworker just lost his sister in-law to a stroke. It just happened, and she was gone.

It seems strange to me, but it seems that spring time is when more deaths occur due to illnesses of some form in our region.

LS, my condolences to you and your family.

We had frost last night, thermometer this a.m. said 34�F. Pond has dropped 5 degrees since this weekend.
