That is a good question. One I don't know the answer too. I know large Oak trees can have roots that are 20 even 30 feet long!! I have an Oak in my yard that has roots every bit of 20 some feet and 2 to 3 inches round! I can't answer that for you but I can tell you this.

Large Oak trees will if given the chance and are close enough to the pond SUCK your little pond dry!!!

You will be like where is all my water going??? Right up the tree! Keep in mind a mature Oak tree can drink up to 50 gallons of water a day! And if you have 2 of them thats close to 100 gallons of water day if they tap into that pond! That's a lot of water out of your small pond a week!! Just FYI..
