GREAT picture Kelly! I'd heard, but never personally verified, that copperheads continually produce venom and need to strike something to relieve pressure...similar to rodents needing to chew due to constantly growing teeth. I know some snakes dry bite humans and animals that are too big to eat, but never heard of a dry copperhead bite.

For me, that snake isn't easy to find. I got it but it took about 1.5 minutes.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I can't find the snake or morels wink ! That's why I wear muck boots along creeks and in woods.

Back when I was younger, a friend and I were wading a creek to go fishing. He was about ten feet ahead of me when he thought he was stepping on a tree branch. This snake turned around and latched onto his thigh. He dropped his tackle box, pole and lunch in the creek when he saw what was on his leg and bolted. Luckily it was some type of water snake. An older fisherman on down the creek looked at his leg and said it wasn't a venomous snake. I still remember him saying something about two puncture "fang" marks to tell if it was poisonous.

It was scary at first but we still laugh about that little trip.

I was wading in a trout stream in the hills of So. Cal. a while back. Had hip boots on, and when I walked upstream as far as I cared to, I couldn't get out because of the brush. So, I walked back downstream to reach the entry point.

Just as I was about to step on the bank, I saw the rattler. It saw me about the same time and we both had the same idea. RUN!!!!!!

It went one way, and I went the other. I looked a lot harder for a different way out of the water this time!

Scott: I stepped directly OVER this little buzzer while hiking at Enchanted Rock two years ago. I never noticed him until I turned around to back-track out of a narrow dead-end path. Nearly wet myself when I realized how close I came to him - without know it. He never made a sound, but undoubtedly would've tagged me had my shoe actually touched him since he was already locked and loaded. I literally had to leap back over him to get out of there since the narrow path (that dead-headed just beyond him) limited my options.

Kelly, really cool hidden copperhead pic. They do have the perfect camo pattern for dead leaves. When they sense someone approaching they coil up and freeze, they do not move or make a sound. They are not aggressive at all, until you step within striking distance. I suspect most all copperhead bites are from accidentally stepping on them or people messing with them.

I am glad we dont have rattlers or cottonmouths here. At least if a copperhead bites you, its probably not going to kill you. But you are going to have a bad day.

I have 2 pairs of snakeboots. Cant afford to step on a copperhead 800 yards from my truck.

Yikes Kelly!

I hope you had a good zoom on the camera. Great pic. How big do you think it was? The one that I met was about 2' long.
