It looks like a corn snake, Elaphe guttata. It is definitely not a copperhead. It sure is a valuable critter to have around. Diet is primarily small rodents when available.
Poor ole Elaphe guttata, misidentified and paid the ultimate price...they thought he was a copperhead.
I hate snakes, but usually just leave them alone.
Except maybe a rattler...which I have never seen in the wild in 55 years....or a cottonmouth which I have seen and it was mean as hell.
