TJ, a buddy has a license, and used to do the fireworks at the Chicago White Sox games. Last year he brought over an 8" mortar that he needed to dispose of. You would have liked it! My neighbor that was in his garage roughly 600 feet away said the the lifting charge rattled all the stuff on the garage walls. The width of it when it burst was over 300'. I think he said that it was about 1,000 feet in the air when it burst. Electronic fuse, no more light and run. We were roughly 100 yds from it before he pressed the button.

I'll see if I can. It has to be dug into the ground about 24"-36" and the fiberglass tube placed in the hole for support.

Or....we can tape it to the side of a piece of driftwood and sail it across the pond and wait for it.

Oh heck no. I wouldn't want to be that close to it. The lift charge would throw the starburst charge all over the place, then that would probably go off. If the grass caught we'd never get it put out.

This thing was almost the size of a soccer ball with a soft ball under it for a lifting charge.

If the grass caught we'd never get it put out. No worries, I'll be on the top of the hill taping you lighting the fuse and pushing it off from shore. I might be convinced to sacrifice a remote controlled boat for such and occasion, too. I'm sure the goggles and hoodie will keep you safe enough. This is gonna be a blast - pun intended.

Esshup's tough....he don't need no stinkin' hoodie or goggles. Just give him a punk and one brown jersey glove and he'll show you how it's done.

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1) And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1) Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT? PB answer: It depends.

e-fuse will work from over a mile away if line of sight (at least that's what I was told) . I like my explosions sort of controlled, with just one escape route for the gasses. TH, I figured why you couldn't hit anything with my big gun last year. The bullet couldn't take 290,000+ RPM and it was coming apart in a little grey copper and lead cloud about 50 yds from the muzzle.

The Star burst on the pond sounds like an old fashioned way of sampling your fish population -- but I am afraid fatal !!! The concussion would sure stun the heck out of most and probably everyone around.
Congrats on the post count - and I agree with you TJ on the forum.

You don't need a fuse if you put the mortar on top of a five gallon bucks of tanerite on a floating object in your pond.. just don't use the bullets esshup Is mentioning.. The 5 gallons alone would kill most fish in your pond then the mortar would simultaneously bbq the fish..
PS- I cannot believe tanerite is still legally available over the counter of most outdoor type stores.. someone has to screw this up for everyone here soon..

BGK, once I saw that, I figured out a solution. I'm using a 180g Berger VLD that has a MV (at 780' elevation)of 3350 fps and it's holding together. The 175g Sierra MatchKing at 3490 fps wouldn't after the barrel had slightly over 200 rounds through it.
Eric, that would be my concern too, besides the grass fire.

I don't know jack about distance shooting.. I can hit pretty much anything with my guns out to say 500 yrd but most of that is sketchy at best.. Now some of the guys I work with are doing some amazing shooting 3-4 second hang times I don't even know the distances there not hitting dimes either but they can hit a standard silhouette target..

BGK, the hang times all depend on the muzzle velocity and bc of the bullet. For instance a .308 shooting a 168g bullet needs 1.7 seconds to go 1,000 yds, my 7mm shooting a 175g bullet travels the same distance in 1.07 seconds. A 45-70? You're looking close to a 3 second time of flight.

Thankfully I'd been drinking with Banks, Sunil and Susie Cruz or I'd have considered being embarrassed.

Don't blame me, Compadre!
It was all Sue Cruz's fault, and her damn affection for Lionel Ritchie.

Now now, I'm not BLAMING anyone, simply stating I imbibed pondside prior to handing the firearms with some of my dearest PB family. Besides, that's the proper gun safety protocol - drink first, fire later, ask no questions, give no quarter, right?
When that tannerite went off my neighbors told me their windows rattled and wondered if I'd finally met my demise. Funny - didn't seem that loud up close - might have been the beermuffs?
