It has been recommended that I apply copper sulfate to help with my muddy water problems(see water clarity post). Any experience with this? Thanks

As far as I know it will not help clear muddy water. It will kill your plankton bloom and other various plant life if your alkalinity is not to low. This might make a pond that has a plankton bloom look clearer but I have never heard of it effecting mud suspended in the water. It can also kill your fish and any use should only be after you fully read the instructions and understand them.I would be very cautious on any use of it.

Thanks for the info. I spoke to the pond specialist at the soil cons. office and he cautioned me on copper sulfate. He is sending me info on muddy ponds in our area and advised that he was certain it is caused by negatively charged clay particles in the water. Will test for akalalinity and hardness. At that time we will add ag lime if needed then add alum to help with turbidity.(man, I almost sound like I know what I am talking about). I appreciate you preventing me from making a BIG mistake. Thanks

DWR353 :

What stopped you from making a mistake was you knowing enough to come here and to your soil cons. office and ask questions. It is smart to know when to ask questions. Good luck with your pond.
