I have a 1 acre pond as well and if I had to choose which of these 2 options to use I would try the solar first. Neither are 100 percent reliable. I don't know much about solar but I do know that you don't have to have direct sunlight at least for it to work for you. Where as if you don't have any wind your in big trouble!!
