One of my conibears was tripped and I could see the rat's head below the water surface. When I pulled it up, it was only the head. The rest of the body was gone, surgically severed and removed at the neck, just behind the jaws of the trap. I checked further, and about 10 feet away on a flat, open spot on the shore was the intestines and related guts, intact and cleanly removed from the body and left behind. The rest of the body was gone with no traces of other body parts anywhere. The entire area was imprinted with mink tracks. This talented guy was obviously well past his residency.
