This past weekend we loaded the family up and headed to the camp at the lake (Toledo Bend). The fishing was very slow and the weather could not make up it's mind and kept changing. My oldest daughter (4 year old) and I set and ran jug lines for catfish. They all turned up dry other than one Bullhead, which she insisted on keeping so I cleaned and cooked it for her. Bass and white perch were slow all weekend and we only ended up with 7 BC and 5 LMB keepers. Saturday morning my uncle did catch this nice sized bass Weighed 8.42 lbs and was released after the picture.

you are correct, When I get up there I get in the same habit as them, both black and white crappie are "White Perch". Some even call bream "Perch".
My daughter was so excited over her BH. We only set out a dozen jugs and I didn't expect much. It was on the last one we checked. As I was unhooking it, my wife told her "I don't think you eat those sweetie", to which she replied "I eat those mama!" So I threw it in the bucket.
We used to spend almost every weekend up there when we first got married, then started having kids. Now they are 1, 2.5, and 4 and getting easier to bring them up there.
As luck would have it, after we left my uncle went out and picked up 12 BC in an hour or two.

The LMB in the first pic look to have good body condition.
Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:" "She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

Some are a little contorted from being on ice.
It really is a great lake. We rarely catch anything that does not have a great body condition. There is so much diversity in structure, flooded timber, vegetation, bottom contours and holes, even submerged buildings and bridges in some places.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

drumz, great catch on a great lake.
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times". Many memories of Toledo Bend and Big Sam. I was tournament fishing back in the day, and a BASS tourney there stopped me from fishing for almost 20 years. The fun was gone, and I was humbled to say the least.
Glad you posted this. Maybe a road trip is in order.

Glad you posted this. Maybe a road trip is in order. He sure was excited about it, and my uncle doesn't get excited for much. It was his largest to date on that lake and he has been fishing it since '81 and had a camp on it since '83. Since he is the one who really taught me to fish (and still is), successfully, I am honored to be on the boat with him and be able to net it.
