There is a pretty big difference between building a dug pond vs a pond in a ravine with a dam. Proper dam construction with a water tight core trench is a science and art not just pushing and driving over dirt. Having a proper sized water shed and a 100 year flood designed spillway are also very important in ravine ponds. Ravine ponds always scare me because there are lots of hidden underground areas in the basin for potential leakage.
