Caught a bunch saturday. Caught maybe 20-25 in about 45 minutes


A surprise crappie. My son in law caught one a couple of years ago in another one of my ponds and he was set for cleaning but flipped off the table just in time. I'm guessing this is the same fish.



A few others. Male or female?

Top bluegill female and bottom two males.

Bottom fish has been caught before? Missing part of his upper jaw -- hook trauma?

How do you tell the sex Cecil? Is it the coloration of the scales?
Bocomo, i don't think the jaw is missing because i catch quite a few like it. I thought it was because the Aquamax is like steriods making the body grow faster than mouth!!

The short ear tab is distinctly female with the longer ones male.

Looks like you have some genetic issues going on from a bad gene showing up more frequently due to too close of fish.

A human example would Cleft Pallate.

Cisco, I believe you are on the right track about body growth being faster than mouth.I have seen this characteristic on many of our immature OTS CNBG.
Can�t tell the size but guessing about 9 inches - light color due to deep cold and/or turbid water?

Thanks guys. I got the fish from Lusk!!Yes George, all of them were about 7-8 inches except the wife did catch a few about 4-5 inches. She also caught the biggest.

I'll try to get some better pics this weekend showing the head configuration. Turbid water is correct.

Tell Lusk to stop bopping them in the face with a hammer before he stocks 'em!

I've heard of fin clipping to keep track of fish, but not smacking them in the face.

As pointed out by a very knowledgeable colleague, a handful of fish like this does not necessarily mean they are of bad stock. In fact it's a good sign that even though these fish may have had a disadvantage in feeding, they are robust in relative weight. The very few fish like this may even be easier to catch due to having to work harder to get feed into their mouths.

I get a handful of yellow perch, which I hatch myself every year, that exhibit scoliosis or lardosis but the rest of my stock are healthy and fast growing. It may or may not be genetic. One fish of this stock eclipsed the state record by 5 oz. and was a length that is in the top 1 percentile for state records.

So Cisco if I was you I would not be concerned.
