We had a wind storm here on Wednesday. Woke up and it was +9C (48F) then the wind got blowing. Here is a video of a lake by our farm. We aren't sure how many shacks got wrecked but it is close to 50. It's kind of a long video. Nearly all Canadian stereotypes are going to confirmed with this guy.

Wow, when something like that happens is the stuff just left to become habitat, or are people made to clean it up?

Lassig it was on jackfish lake. I think it will have to all be picked up or the owners will be fined. Pretty hard to prove who owns what now though.

One thing I've always admired about Canada is they don't tolerate litter.

You'll pay to have your rig removed up here if it goes down.

Here too, but I was talking about litter, debris, etc. i know a camp that was closed to Americans up there because the owner got tired of all the trash they were leaving. Was up in the backwoods of Maine and really disappointed in all the garbage people left laying around. Gorgeous scenary with trash here and there.

Went across the line from Michigan to Windsor once and it was like night and day from litter everywhere to none. At least Niagara Falls has improved tremendously in that respect. The American side was a dump 23 years years ago. This June it was spotless.

Of course not all Americans are like that but it seemed the Canadians took more pride in the outdoors.

In lots of the cities you will see litter along the highways come spring but organizations clean it once the snow melts. It is rare to see litter anywhere rural. I go to Phoenix every winter to visit my parents and spend time out in the desert on side by side. It's a disaster in some areas. The problem is once it starts it gets out of control really fast. That stuff will last a long time.

And some lazy people assume someone else will pick it up for them. Just like the folks that are too freaking lazy to return their shopping carts to the cart coral. Then someone runs into it with their car.

I don't know why shopping centers don't so what Aldi's does. You don't see any carts in the parking lot there.

I was once on vacation and wanted to fish a small lake in Massachusetts that had huge bluegills. Only trouble was the public beach on it, that folks launched their car top boats on, was for local resident's only. So I came up with a plan. I figured if I picked up all the trash on the beach no one would say anything if I launched my little dingy.

Anyway, I filled up two trash bags full of garbage, with much of it right next to people laying on towels including used diapers. Then I pulled my little boat across the sand and fished.

What killed me was this lake was absolutely gorgeous and the locals that used the beach were trashing it. It took someone that wasn't technically allowed to launch there to clean it up.

Anymore I take trash bags to public launches and anglers aren't any better. You should see what some of these people leave on the ice!

Cecil, I've seen ice fishermen bring wood to make a fire on the ice, then leave what they didn't burn to float around in the lake after ice off.

I thought that was illegal now?

We used build fires on the ice in Massachusetts but didn't leave any unburned wood. The ash and charcoal that was left fell in with the melting ice and wasn't a problem. Charcoal is used as a water purifier.
