Which brings my next question.. How long does before ice becomes unsafe with day temp pushing 40� and night temps at just below freezing...
I know every situation is different, but never really paid attention of ice on ponds...
I would guess at least a week with 12" but as you said, it depends. I've gone through the ice at -30f with 4' of ice all around me while beaver trapping so you never know.
