I really like the temperature part of the metric system but the rest isn't very handy. All of our roads were built in miles. Land is in sections 1x1 mile.
What makes more sense then celcius. Water freezes at 0 and boils at 100.
The roads are set at 1 1/4 miles up here. I was told something about so many rods for the frontage of the 100 acres and so many of these across and only two farms deep to make it to the next mile and a quarter.
I do know if you look at ice and as it starts to honeycomb it will change from nice and dark to grey or snow like. This ice is very weak and would want 10"S or more before I would walk on it. IT gos out much faster than it is made for sure. 6"s of ice can be gone in four days if the temp of over 0*C or 32*F.
