Pond Boss Forums AQUATIC VEGETATION Controlling unwanted plants Is Hydrated Lime OK for the pond and fish?

I read somewhere that hydrated lime can decrease the FA in a pond. Is this true? Is there anyone out there that can shed some light on this question of mine? My pond is located in Southwest Michigan and when it starts to warm up I get the FA that slimy stuff on top that floats. Looks nasty. Thank you for any info.

not sure if it works for fa or not. we use it on occasion and in the past even more to bump up alk for a short time to make it easier to fertilize. However in SE water if you use more than 100 lbs/acre ( UGA pond manual states 50 lbs.) you could casue a fish kill, it is very basic pH I think aroudn 11 so be careful.

Be careful it can raise the alkalinity to the point that it kills your fish. It is not the tool to deal with FA but can be spot used in shallow water if you know what you are doing but only if you have low alkalinity.
