We have a shallow (200') deep well that we are thinking of using to maintain water levels in our existing 10 and 2 acre bass / bluegill ponds. Ponds are located in Central California.

I have a water chemistry analysis on the well water and it shows Ca - 28.58, Na - 44.2, SAR - 11.6, Adj SAR - 26.0, Cl - 47.0, CO3 + HCO3 - 0.8, SO4 - 31.3, PH - 7.7, L.I Calc - 0.6, Gyp Req at lbs / AC-fT - 3594.

Would there be any negative or harm to our aquatic and fish to add this water into our ponds?

Thanks!

Is high our high Ca an issue? I have them analysis report as a pdf, and it's hard to make a copy and post it legibly.

THANKS!!

how large is the well, and more importantly how many gpm are you getting out of it.

do a calculation to figure out how much water it would take to raise 12 acres of lake by 1 inch. it's going to be impressive. Then calculate how many hours/days it would take to raise it that 1 inch.

It may or may not be worth it to you and your electric bill, regardless of water chemistry

We already pump from it and use it for our domestic water on the property - got that covered. Question I have is on the water chemistry.

DavidB,

I am no expert but I have been told that most well water has little dissolved oxygen and this may affect the fish when pumping in that particular area.

I am in the process of designing some type of system to aerate my well water before going into the pond.

Do you have anything to serve that purpose?

Couppe:

We run our water thru a 12" line spilling 8' above the water onto broken concrete rock from which the water then flows into our ponds. We also have Vertex aeration systems on each pond for aeration. Low DO has never been an issue even when we fill using our 3,000 gpm well.

Anyone can help on my water chemistry question?

shocked shocked shocked shocked

3,000 gpm??? Holy water-flow!

Sorry, I can't help on the water chemistry,, still in shock over the 3,000 gpm. What size of discharge tube, or pipe, or whatever is that shooting out of?

Mine's 30 gpm, yours is spewing 50 gallons per second!?!?

Typo???

Our 3000 gpm pump at 1,800' Ag well is 24" line and used to do seasonal flash flooding as well as fill and maintain 500 acres of hunt ponds. Also used to top off out fish ponds too when needed. Small domestic pump is 700 gpm at 200'. Cheaper to run the small pump versus the larger pump to maintain fish pond water levels, hence my question on the water chemistry on the shallow well water.

Any water chemists here that can tell me on my water make up and if ok to use in my fish ponds? Thanks to whomever can help on this question.

Dave
