How much snow did you get from the latest storm?

I got about 8 1/4 inches here in northeastern Indiana.

Pics please..

Is in the teens outside and blowing strong. We got about 4" but I am not going out to take pictures!

Averaged out to around 9" here in west central IL

Somewhere in the 6 to 8 range, less then expected but still plenty!

None at my house in VA, had 2" of snow on the ground at our hunting cabin in PA when I left. My dad said we ended up with around 6" there.

O.K. later. Need too open a hole in the ice on the big pond near shore and install a diffuser for winter. Should have done it before the pond froze over.

Had around 7" yesterday early afternoon. Lake effect is supposed to kick in today, and it did, starting around 7:00 a.m. It's only supposed to add a few more inches, nothing huge.

Just got a quick 6 unexpected inches from Lake Erie. Very unusual for strong lake effect like that at our house! That happened in two hours btw.

A girl I used to date live east of Fredonia, NY in the hills. It snows there a lot, but right now they are in record territory. Something like 60 inches last week, then 12 in the storm yesterday, and tonight they are getting hammered with thunder snow at 3 or more inches per hour!

They use massive snowblowers around there on the roads. God forbid if your car is in a snow bank and gets chewed by one of those!

Just slightly to the right of center of this pictures is where I shot the deer Friday night. He was right against the woods eating clover in the field there. To the left is a half acre plot, far half is a brassica mix and the close half is winter rye/winter pea mix

This topic brings to mind a couple of questions I have around plowing a gravel driveway with a tractor and front end loader. Realize the driveway is not perfectly flat. Is there a trick to not picking up to much gravel? I have an new holland T2220 (34 hp) compact tractor. One problem I have Saturday in plowing was the rear wheels spinning, would wheel weights and/or tire chains help reducing this?

lassig, early on I tried out a front-end loader on a tractor for plowing snow, and it was almost a disaster. It is very hard to get it right without digging into the gravel. A little weight in the scoop, and down it goes! One bump, or if you have any sort of crest, it is obliterated. I dug the ever living begeebers out of my driveway when I tried it out, and it is why I decided a tractor was too much money for too little practical use. Also it took far too long to finish. Multiple hours with more than 8" as you have to scoop and dump a lot.

In contrast my el'cheapo 4-wheeler and a Moose County plow can clear my entire 1/4 long gravel driveway and turn-around in less than 20 minutes as long as I am dealing with under 10" of snow at a time. It does scatter some gravel, but it is much easier to raise the plow a little bit to minimize this.

If you can afford it, there is an excellent attachment for smaller tractors that is a front-plow that replaces the standard scoop. It allows you to adjust tilt and angle via hydraulics in your seat. I've seen a few around, and they look to work well. You just cannot get the speed to throw the snow away from the sides like you can with a 4-wheeler.

Oh, yes, you pretty much have to use tire chains with the tractor.

As a side-note I tried a 3-pt hitch snow thrower last winter and it *stunk!* Clogged constantly and tossed gravel 20ft from the driveway. Luckily it broke right off the bat and I was able to give up that experiment. It looked so promising!

The trick with the scoop is to leave the tip of it angled up a bit, which means always packing a bit of snow onto the driveway for a nice icy sheen. Hopefully you can get it thin enough the sun will take care of the rest.

There was a pretty nice past thread on it about a year ago.
Might be worth resurrecting it considering the time of year.

Lake Erie---a love/hate relationship!!!!

Got almost 16" here. Was successful to remove the snow with a front end loader. The trick for me to not remove gravel when moving the snow is to have the bucket tip up a bit and not dig down into the gravel. Yes it leaves a bit of snow there, but nothing you can't drive over.

Unfortunately on my driveway the loader is key to lift the snow over fencing and dump it. It does take longer to dump than just plow, but I don't have much place for the snow to go if I just plow.

That and my short memory. Getting old sucks

Plow high with a grader blade and pack the rest down with the wheels. Twenty-three years of plowing a 1/3 mile long stone driveway. Four-wheel drive is very helpful with a full bucket of snow in the loader.
