I ran into these soil patterns again while excavating a new area near my daughters pond. The strange part was they did not appear till I had uncovered about 4 feet of dirt. Maybe they are not filled in crawdad holes at all? Then It occurred to me that this area is near a small seasonal creek and may have been in a wet area years ago. Those holes could have been made a hundred, five hundred or even a thousand years ago, filled in, then silt covered the area from seasonal floods.

Interesting stuff that comes from deep beneath the ground.
