I would say that these burrows were out of the pond when made because the pond dam had been breeched and what was pond was no longer. Now it will be pond once again. The pics were from my sons pond.
In my old pond it was the same way. I was actually excavating new area for pond that had been kind of on the shallow end where water ran in from the watershed and was only covered for short periods but remained moist for a good portion of the year.
