Wow, reminds me of how blessed we all are! My pond leaks and looks like a crater as I am waiting for the late fall runoff to begin, but a 3ft down pond sure beats no pond. I tricked my wife to moving out here to begin with, and there is no way i would get her to move out further for a better pond site. Best part of having a pond? Having one.

I always seem to be in a hurry anymore, but this one from last week made me pause for a moment. Not what I would call a pretty photo, just interesting.

When I built my pond, I destroyed an incredible mushroom spot. We once found 6 1/2 lbs in half an hour there. Someone commented what a mistake that was. I responded that I just traded a couple weeks' enjoyement for a lifetime's. That's a pretty good trade.

Has to be watching kid catch fish, followed closley by being able to sit out on the peir with a scotch in the evening. Had a coworker bring his kids to do some perch jerking to help me keep my population in check. His daughter in 1st grade caught a 4lb CC and was all smiles, biggest fish she had ever caught. They pulled out a bunch of bream and some CCs and had a fish fry. My friend said his daughter was happy saying that she caught dinner.
good stuff

Brook, I found out I did the same thing during my pond construction, about a year after the fact, when I found morels growing all the way up to the banks of the ponds. No telling how many I sacraficed in the main basin and flooded draws, but the edges of the pond still produce to a degree. Agree, it was a solid tradeoff...we can always walk the Platte river in the Spring.

My newest, bestest reason for having a pond:

This is a prepared pad overlooking pond #3, where my parents, with help from my family and I, will soon be undertaking the job of transforming a 14' x 20', two story storage barn into a weekend getaway cabin. I've mentioned before that this property was once a campground, and I camped here with my parents and sister for many years, starting when I was 5 years old...never dreaming I would one day own the place. My folks are long retired, and have reached the conclusion that pulling a travel trailer all across the country is no longer feasible. But, they still would like to have a place to escape to, where they can fish and enjoy the outdoors.

I knew this day would come, so I've done my best to try and keep the place accessible, and make the logistics of fishing, and simply getting around, as easy as possible.

The building gets delivered next week, and the renovation begins. Should be quite the project.

Awesome Tony - what a great story, too! Can't wait to see you chronicle the journey. Too cool.

What's really cool, is not one person has said trophy fish. Pond's are all about family, friends, and memories.

Cool pics guys.

TJ, when I visit next spring, you are taking a day or two off and we're going mushroom hunting!

Just tell them we want to go birdwatching...we'll pack our shroom sacks in our socks, and start searching for the Piping Plover nest!

The first clue would be me asking to go bird watching. That sounds like a lot of sitting still!

It's my place to go and relax after a stressful day. Love watching my kids fish and swim! It's neat watching the fish feeder go off and seeing all water boil as the fish feed. It's amazing how my pond ecology has changed in a short amount of time.

Since moving here in April of last year I've been living a dream come true. So having one, sharing one and transforming one from this, taken 6-5-12;

To this taken this morning 11-8-13;

With family and friends complimenting me on turning this pond into what it is today, I can only duck and allow the credit to pass on to those who made it possible; Pond Boss and so many of you on this forum who have shared so much.

And doing what I can to pay-it-forward along the way.

Thanks PB!
