Pond Boss Forums AQUATIC VEGETATION Controlling unwanted plants How long should it take?

Hello. I bought the copper sulfate crystals to control FA the guy at the store told me to mix it with water to get it really concentrated. I put some in my 1/4 acre pond a week ago and it dont seem to be doing anything to the alge at all. I have been raking all FA off the top. It just comes back in a couple days. I was just wondering how long it should it take to see a differance.

Welcome; how much did you use and how did you apply it? How warm was the water?

You should see some dis-coloration in 3-5 days if is going to work on the algae. I would hand broadcast the copper directly on the algae. Be careful only to treat 1/3 of the pond at a time.

I didnt put very much in about 2 cups of concentrated stuff right next to a fountain so it would mix well and the water temp was about 60 F.
I did notice parts of some of the moss around the pond did turn a yucky brown but not much. It seams like im fertalizing cuz the more I take out the more it comes back the next day hahaha.

Thanks for the info ewest. the copper sufate stuff is gone will never be put in my pond again its a good thing I didnt use very much. My wife just bought a gallon of algacide in a gallon jug I probably wont use it either. I think im going to get some barly straw and crass carp.
