I'll say this, Mr. Zett's certainly shares some very "interesting" observations he has made...

Esshup my pond is one acre.

As I remember Zetts started in business around 1900 when they didn't have chemicals to speak of and so a more natural means was used to control ponds. Once he saw the grass carp eating his bass spawn he quit using them for plant control, but said that Israeli & KOI carp did a good job for that. He said when he would drain a pond with the two types of carp that had been in it and the bottom of the pond looked like it had a comb run through it. Of course that causes turbidity but I didn't think it was so bad in my pond. Then you have the green pea bloom also and I think there was a mixture of both.

Zetts listed the FA eaters as first, Israeli Carp, second, KOI, third, channel cats, and he kept all three in his ponds for FA control. I think he was right with the channel cats. I was once at a pond seminar talking to a guy that had bad FA but didn't use to. I told him about the fish used by Zetts to control FA and he said that he had had a lot of channel cats but made a concerted effort to rid the pond of them, and that’s when the FA started showing up. So in my experience Zetts was on to something that worked.

Appreciate it AL. Can't wait to see it.

I've been doing a lot of internet searching and not much out there.

John that Zetts has a pretty cool website!
Interesting what it say's about Koi cleaning up a pond.

BTW --- I don't see Israeli carp listed on Zetts website,
do you know where you can get them? And do they not require
a permit?

Im thinking koi and goldfish would have a hard time reproducing because of their bright colors. Wouldn't the yoy be easy targets for all other species?

Zep, you are probably looking at another Zetts, perhaps the off springs of Andrew J. Zetts. Andrew went out of business many years ago. He was never online and did business the old fashion way, by mail and phone. His address at that time was,

ANDREW J. ZETTS, JR.
ZETTS FISH FARM & HATCHERIES
DRIFTING, PA 16834

Israeli Carp are really hard to find. I know they are sold in southern Ohio at some fish hatchery as I had the link and have lost it. I probably originally got the link from someone here on a discussion of Israeli Carp, so it could be in the archives on Pond Boss.

Zep I'm positive it’s old Andrew Zetts son. I check many pictures, graphics and words from Andrew's old aquatic farming book I have, against the online catalog in the Zetts of W. Virginia and they are exactly the same, even down to most of the pictures being black and white, and the few pictures that are in color. So much of the old Zetts catalog was used to build the new one. They have dropped the Israeli Carp I see.

It's a shame how many people get bad advice from fish farmers who may not have bad intentions, but are just ignorant.
