Some pond owners in my area have used a chemical herbicide called Diuron (sometimes labeled as Karmex) to control pondweed. I know that this product is not labeled for use as an aquatic herbicide, and I'm not aware of the toxicity implications for fish or the legality issues when using it around water. Does anyone have any specific knowledge oe experience with this product ?

Search this site for a discussion of Karmex that took place a year or two ago. As I recall, Karmex was suspect in fish mutations. My impression was that I would not have it in or around my pond.

Any herbicide that is not labeled for aquatic use should not be used in aquatic environments (namely Karmex).
Positive plant ID and professional direction in herbicide use will lead you to the correct remedy with no harmful side effects.
