For algae and chara control? I may opt to use it in my trout ponds as it has no copper vs. the copper products out there. I'm fairly safe with my very hard water with copper products but if I have an option to use something without copper I'd rather do it.
Water temp have any bearing on the effectiveness of Green Clean?
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Cecil we use lots of K-tea even in low hardness but have had no fish kills from it, knock on wood. However I have a client, Nardelli (Home Depot) that has lots of lillies that sometimes get burned from copper app. I have seen Green Clean work but overall have been disappointed so far in its effectiveness on filamentous algae. Let me know how it works for you if you try it out.

Cecil - GREENCLEAN won't help you with Chara. However, it has performed well on various blue-green and filamentous algae growths - including benthic mats. But, its effectiveness is very limited on surface-mats of filamentous algae. An ample amount of readily available water is necessary to trigger and sustain GREENCLEAN's activity (it is an oxydizing agent). When it is applied to surface-mats of FA, there simply isn't enough free water on top of the mat to fuel the reaction. GREENCLEAN is best used on suspended and submerged growths of algae.

Thanks guys. I was intending on using it on filamentous alage while it was still on the bottom. I usually net it out once it floats.
I'm seeing something different this year regarding my chara in the trout pond. It is being covered with filamentous algae and may be killing it except in the deepest water.
I do have an aquaculture book that talks about killing off macrophytes by fertilizing in winter to allow the filamentous algae to cover it and kill it. They used something called superphosphate.

CB1 : Superphosphate is known in one form as 0-46-0 and is quite common and we use it as clearly the limiting chem. factor in our ponds is phosphorus and not nitrogen or potassium Interesting in the link below is the comment on trip.phosp. having a stabilizing effect on ammonia/manure. Maybe you or Bill can tell us what that means in the context of our prior post where ammonia was discussed in relation to you growout pond.
