I watched a heron take a 12" LMB out of the pond this Summer. I managed to make enough noise (a high speed crack) to get him to drop the fish. There wasn't even a mark on the bass, but it took me too long to get down to the pond to be able to revive it. I wish I'd have thought to eat it; was too upset at the time to make the best of the situation.
