What is a trick work?

"Trick worms" are made by Zoom company. They're a floating plastic worm lure.

Does anyone have any tips on catching RES? I keep catching these when I throw a light jig head with a small chunk of nightcrawler...I have only caught one RES out of my pond this year.

I have caught the RES in our pond with just hook, bobber, and a redworm.

Try some Spikes/Maggots for those RES

Most of the RES I catch are taken while deadsticking with live bait.

Here are some sweet "pinks" from two weeks ago from the big pond out west. They are expecting 12 million pinks to come into Puget Sound this year.

On the bottom? or using a float?

Primarily on the bottom. I have taken some on a float setup with the bait suspended about 6-12" off bottom, but tend to catch more BG x RES hybrids with that method.

Split shot and hook? or just a jig head?

In the warmer months when RES are not on their beds, finding structure, particularly woody structure in deeper water is key. I like to use a conical worm weight of 1/32-1/8 oz on 6 pound test tied above a high quality small swivel. I then attach a 18"-36" leader of 2 pound fluorocarbon to the swivel. From there I have a couple different set ups. I usually use a size 6-10 hook, usually a simple bronze bait holder, but will sometime use an octopus of the same size, depending on the bait used. For bait, I really like live crickets. In areas where there are grass shrimp, they are hard to beat as well. I have also used small red worms, wax worms and meal worms. On the longer leaders, I will sometimes use a float that you will find on a nightcrawler harness used for walleye fishing. Black is my preference, but sometimes a little flash helps, especially in dingy water. Bounce the rig right on the bottom as close to structure as you can...

The less weight the better in my opinion. If you're casting out any distance, I would probably use a splitshot and hook, rather than the jighead.

If I'm using a float to present the bait right off bottom, I might use a 1/64 jighead. I do prefer the horizontal presentation when suspended freely.

What a fish!

That's not a fish, that is a competition frisbee with a fish skin wrapped around it. That thing is a mutant!

I was messing around with a SPRO rattle trap that I bought the other night and caught this 14-1/2" SMB. This is the biggest SMB I have caught out the pond so far. I assume that this is one of the orignal stockers I put in late October 2011.

Fishing Season opened today � mid-June last time we fished our ponds.
Near surface water continues to be too hot to fish but just had to find out what kind of condition our fish,
so risked over-stressing. Saved nice HSB that had gone belly up with O2 live well system.
