Yes aeration and pond bacteria will work to some degree as esshup says. It will take time though.
I have been using a bacteria now for 3 years and I am just now starting to see some benifit. And I only use it for 2 months so if you use it longer it should help even more. Just don't over do it. Read on the package how much your suppose to use per month and dont exceed it.
I believe I have lost about 2 inchs a year in the past 3 years. It's no quick fix that's for sure, but it does work. Plus air is just plain good for your pond and fish. Oxygen is king! You have to have it!
