What about burning off cattails in the winter once they turn brown to reduce organic matter available before they wilt into the water? I am finding cattails are an effective shoreline barrier to herons but I don't want them contributing to fill in of the pond.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.
