let's see now, squirrel hunting in my own woods.... grin

.22 with 3X9 variable... 6.5lbs, 10 rds of .22 lr.... negligible, Case XX pocketknife....3ozs, three Slim Jims....1.5ozs, partial bottle of a Pepsi Throwback....12ozs, the clothes on my back, and 640 ft elevation....

Hey, I'm feeling pretty good about my abilities right now..... think I can hold off on the excercise regiment for another year at this rate! laugh

I'm just pulling your leg...your trip sounds awesome, and I don't blame you for trying to make sure you get the most out of it. Good luck with your routine!

Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Thanks guys!

O.K. Tony, your post made me think and I had to break out the scale.

Kimber 84M Classic Varmint in .17 Mach II with Simmons Aetec 3.8-12x44 AO scope 8.2# (didn't think it was that heavy). WalMart bag to put the tree rats in virtually nothing. That's about it.

I'm starting a thread about skinning the tree rats. Was shown an easier way.

Pretty sure I have that scope on my .300 Win Mag.

For me, the scope works quite well. Don't know how a tree rat would be configured after getting punched that hard tho.

It'd be O.K. if you touched it in front of the eyes. Anything further back and it's instant burger, at least for the front half.

But instead of some of the things in that particular book, I also carry around a Kestrel 3500 and a pocket PDA with Exbal on it. If you do your homework before hand at the range and get your muzzle velocity and correct bullet ballistic coefficent data, thost tools will allow you to make first shot hits out wayyyy out there if you can get an accurate distance measurement.

Here's a video of Shawn doing some long range practice.

Scott, cool videos! Long Range guys amaze me. Not with their hits, but with the close proximity of their misses.

Somehow I'm still doing it wrong despite all your help. Since I use a scope on the .17 HMR you've been helping me with and it doesn't have iron sights, I've been licking the scope. Doesn't seem to be working well though, because everything's fuzzy now.

Do you have to worry about decomp setting in during the time it takes you to hike over to the next township, where the animal went down? wink

I wouldn't know how to act with that much open space around me....I was freaked out just driving up to your place! I need hills, hollers, and trees to be in my comfort zone. crazy

FIH, that's because you've been licking the lens. You got to lick the crosshairs!

Sprkplug, it's usually cold enough out to keep them cool 'till you get to 'em. grin

I figure it's easier to walk to them when they're laying down rather to stalk to get closer only to find they moved since you saw them last.

SP, I'm with you. Most of our East TX stuff could be hunted with a 30-30. First time I went to Big Bend mule deer hunting, it was almost overwhelming.
