I am assuming that you mean the spring will be in the pond. If this is so, then if the source of the spring drops below the level of the pond at full pool, the pond level will also drop. Think of it like two buckets of water connected by a small tube from the bottom of one bucket to the other. It could help all the time or just sometimes, and it could hurt sometimes. Surrounding the spring with something to contain the water, during a dry time, may help you predict how it will behave. This could be a culvert or earthen wall depending on the way things are arranged in your situation. You may even be able to drive a pipe in and see how high the water rises in the pipe if you can seal it off well.
