I get a nice bloom in May each year - Secchi depth goes from my typical 2'6" down to 1'6" or 1'9". Then at the end of June, it clears back to 2'6" or so again. A week later, the newly hatched fry that ate the plankton get big enough for my poor eyes to notice.

So maybe new fry ate their way through most of your bloom. If so, you should be able to detect them.
