I tried fishing this evening with my family and it turned into a weed catching event. For every good cast there were two bad..COONTAIL, I hate this plant, I have tried Grass carp about two years ago, have not seen any sign of them existing in my three ac pond. I released two dozen 10 to 12" in early June of 03 (Bass bait?).. I gave Mother Nature here shot, now its time for better living thru chemistry. I plan on using Cutrine Plus on my enemy, if you all know of a better, cheaper, safer way please let me know, coontail is about the only problem weed I ever seem to have in my pond,I plan to treat 1/3 of the area at a time and then return after 2 weeks for the next segment(is this long enough?)Thanks for your help.

I'm fairly computer inept... This a link to a July 7, 2004 coontail discussion, I hope. Several good ideas on control.

Good luck.

Mr Willy,
I can think of a better way, not cheaper however.
Sonar AS or Q will work very well this time of year, but will be tougher as the season progresses. You can eliminate approx 90% of it this season. The remaining 10% can be left for fish habitat, structure etc.
If there are any other plants you are trying to protect, Sonar would not be the best choice.
My 2 cents,
Mark

i too have fought coontail for 3 years, i got good advice from kelly duffie and i spray a solution of water 1 gal of aquathol to 15 gal of water, over my 1surface acre pond located in central tex, all trapped rain water, no natural stream input, it has worked great, the cutrine plus works on the algae and i think to some extent on the weeds but not as well. good luck
