I miss America where you didn't need government permission to do something like marvel at a cool sinkhole like that. I like that Sheriff.
There is something that makes you know you're alive standing close to the edge of danger.
I say this in full knowledge that most Americans seem to have lost common sense...
Sigh.
Ha! You should have been with me Elk hunting last year then. The guide and I picked/slid our way down a rock slide to a flat rock that was on the edge of the canyon. That rock was no larger than maybe 5' wide by 3' front to back. We sat there looking for any elk that might be wandering thru the canyon. I sat there for a while, with my feet dangling over the edge, but had to be careful moving around as it looked like it was a ways down to the bottom. I dug out my rangefinder and started to take some readings. I was even more careful when I stood up, as the rangefinder said it was about 600 yds straight down, and slightly over 800 yds to the bottom of the canyon.

It sure didn't look like I was that far up from the bottom!!
That night it snowed about 6" and the guide said we weren't going back to that rock because if we started sliding down that rock slide we wouldn't stop until we were waayyy past that rock that we were sitting on.
