i have 2 hose bibs connected to my well. i can hook up a hose and go around the entire pond. i used a 10 gallon to 1/2 gallon of cutrine mixture when i sprayed the first time. it killed most of the algae and i am going to do another shot when the water is a little warmer. the first time i sprayed the pond i only used a half gallon of cutrine. i have a pipe from a well that operates the hose bibs as well as allows me to fill the pond during dry spells which always maintains the pond level. in addition there must be a small leak so i have to turn it on once in awhile since its a relatively new pond.

most of the algae did die off and sink. so far this sprayer was the least dillutive i counld find - 10 gallon of water to 1/2 gallon of cutrine. it has a dial to set set the mixture and this is the highest the setting goes. i am looking for something that sprays a little stronger that i can hook up to the hose.

thanks for the info - i have thought i would try the cutrine route first before the fish. if it does not work i can always use fish next year with the cutrine.

fulton, out of curiosity, what exactly is a hose bib? also, that is helpful info about what you found to be the weakest, but effective dilution. i hate paying for stuff that i just spray into the water, don't you?!! i'm interested in checking out the tilapia possibility.

Our algae problem is worse this year in our N.E. Texas 2 acre three year old pond than previous years.

We will be stocking tilapia today, based largely on Meadowlark's experience and Todd Overton's recommendation.

In this case a hose bib is the valve used to connect a hose to a water system, an ordinary water faucet.

Enjoy the tilapia they are at the very least, what they are cracked up to be, plus if you like fish they are excellent eating.

Domesticated ducks and geese are very good at removing alge.

JRJohnson, I've been looking for them as well in Oklahoma. Several fish suppliers in North Texas are willing to ship to Oklahoma, but in the neighborhood of $1.50 to $1.08 per mile, plus $10 per pound of tilapia. However, if there were several of us Okies (or Jayhawks, for that matter) that may be looking for them, we might be able to coordinate a shipment and cut that cost way down for a group of us. Even if we met somewhere for a transfer (I'm thinking along I-35 somewhere) we might be able to get something of a deal. From Henderson, TX to Kremlin, OK (North of Enid) it was going to cost me $320 to ship $500 worth of fish.

Bob - let me know how your filamentous algae is doing (or not "doing"). If you're still having problems, I may have an option for your consideration. KD
